So back in June after the webserver (Guarddawg) crashed, I had a hard time deciding what to do about getting it all back together since there are not many Win2K Advanced Server-compatible motherboards out there anymore. After some checking, I discovered that the mobo in BigDawg was Win2K-able, so I decided to make a swap of machine entities between the hardware. That meant taking Bigdawg out of its happily-plugging-right-along state and transferring it to a new motherboard, and rebuilding Guarddawg inside of Bigdawg's old gear. Kind of a PITA to swap everything across, but it mostly worked out.

However...

Bigdawg's having issues in its new box - likes to BSOD whenever an application decides to dig into a big chunk of memory. After Topdawg crashed and I swapped its mobo, it's decided it doesn't want to play with the lowly workgroup machines and won't allow Network Discovery to be turned on, so I can't print from it yet. And I'm still getting all the MySQL, PHP, and IIS settings all squared away so the websites are all back to normal.

About the only machines that haven't been majorly reconfigured in the past 3 months are Anubis, Lapdawg, and the Dumpster Mac.

Yeah - a computer geek's work is never done.

OK - so back in June, my webserver went down - popped a capacitor or two on the motherboard and died. Sadly, earlier this year I had to move some of the stuff around on the hard drives because the OS drive was getting full - so I moved some of it onto a kinda flaky SATA drive I had yanked out of another machine. Well, when the motherboard went toast the drive checked out as well - with the MySQL database on it. So now, I have pretty much lost everything from the forums and blogs since I began them, except for all of the graphics, skins, widgets, and other basic things that are used to build them (except for the actual data).

Oh well. Start over then.

Here's another shot at it - with scheduled back-ups in-place this time.
