Right Now!

My Slant on Van Halen

I have a problem.

There are several groups out there with their own preferences toward Van Halen. There are those who prefer David Lee Roth, those who prefer Sammy Hagar, those who prefer Gary Cherone, and even those who would prefer to see somebody like Vanilla Ice front the group (these guys are severely mentally challenged).

In all of these groups, the majority of the folks generally hate anything that was not done by the singer they prefer. I.E. - those who prefer Dave, can't stand Sammy. Those who prefer Sammy, can't stand Dave. Those who prefer Gary, generally don't like Dave or Sammy. And those who prefer Dave along with those who prefer Sammy agree on one thing - they pretty much can't stand Gary. And on and on...

My problem is this: I love it all. Van Halen. Period. Whether it's Dave belting out Unchained, Sammy crankin' on Dreams, or Gary blasting Without You. I even like the solo efforts of Dave and Sammy, and the stuff from Extreme when Gary was with them. All of these CDs see time in the players and I've made copies on to tapes so the cassette deck in my Jeep gets its time as well. I know...I'm gonna burn in Hell for continuing to support the guys.

I'm the guy who is still having a great time Right Now, since the rest of you "fans" (as you call yourselves) have abandoned the guys because you're not happy with the line-up. I guess that makes me an enthusiast, or afficionado, or some other words that the "fans" have for me that I shouldn't repeat here.

Of course, I also like Depeche Mode, Slaughter, Garth Brooks, Vangelis, [almost] anything Classical, Asia, Poison, Mannhiem Steamroller, Brooks & Dunn, Bryan Adams, AC/DC, Boston, ELO, Styx, Howard Jones, the Police, Aerosmith, David Bowie, Berlin, Journey, Bon jovi, Stone Temple Pilots, the Cure, School of Fish (thanks, Dave), No Doubt, Europe, a whole bunch of others listed on the page previous this, and yes...even Yanni (you really should check it out before you bash me for that).

Having said that, and scaring off those who find my slant offensive, check out my stuff.

I had the good fortune to attend a Van Halen concert during the last leg of the Balance Tour in Austin, Texas - way back in September 1995. That was an incredible show - which has been my best concert experience to date, even considering that my wife and I just attended the KISS Farewell Tour in San Antonio a few weeks ago (April 14th, 2000). If you've never seen Van Halen live, get a copy of Live! Right Here, Right Now, and crank it up. You'll be amazed at just how good these guys are.

There's more coming up - please check back - this page is still NOT finished...
